The story of the 'underdog'

We recently received a video about one of the most unbelievable and unusual sightings we've heard about in a while, and just had to share this with you!

Calvet Nkomo, one of the expert guides at Somalisa Camp in Zimbabwe's Hwange National Park just seems to always be in the right place at the right time! He was with guests when they witnessed a lioness that had stalked and captured a wild dog. The dog was hanging limp and lifeless in the lionesses mouth, but luckily she had only grabbed the back of his neck. As another member of the pack distracted the lion, it allowed the captured dog to escape.

The Painted Dog Conservation organisation identified the targeted member of the pack as the alpha male, named 'Notch'. He was found soon after the attack and is in good health - he managed to escaped without a scratch.

This is the rawness of Africa.

PS This video may be distressing for the more sensitive viewers amongst us, but we can promise that the happy ending is worth it!

Zimbabwe, a place drenched in beauty and fittingly nicknamed 'God's own country'. Known for its landscape and diverse wildlife the main draw card is Victoria Falls, a haven for white water rafters and bungee jumpers. One of Southern Africa’s most rewarding game safari destinations, with a full cast of favoured mammals from lions to leopards and elephant to antelope. An undervalued must do destination!

Prepare for an extraordinary land and water big game safari experience across Zimbabwe, in combination with the awe-inspiring Victoria Falls. This beautiful country is fast re-emerging as an incredible safari destination attracting the attention of many adventurers from around the world.
