The Cape Town Foodie Scene

We've been out and about lately...

It's been a whirlwind couple of weeks leading up to Caroline's 40th birthday celebrations this past Sunday - an absolutely lovely day spent with her nearest and dearest at La Grapperia, an utterly delightful bistro at Spice Route just outside Paarl in the Cape Winelands. A lazy afternoon lunch turned into an evening of wine and snacks - a day full of fun and laughter with those she cherishes most!

Caroline, Natalie and Imogen have also been wining and dining around Cape Town a fair amount lately and wanted to take a moment and share some of our favourite spots with you.

Avant-garde | Tapas | Winery

We’ve all been back here time and time again. Since opening the original Chef’s Warehouse along the hip Bree Street, Chef Liam Tomlin and his team continue to deliver an incredible tapas menu. We’ll never tire of the views from Beau Constantia.
Don’t forget to leave some space for their signature bonbons!

Quirky | Creative | Fun

Caroline first went when it had just launched and, to be honest, wasn’t all that impressed. She went again recently and can confidently recommend Foxcroft for anyone looking for a great fine-dining experience with a relaxed and casual vibe. They continue to inspire us with every dish that comes out of their kitchen.
They’re the sister restaurant of La Colombe in Constantia.

Elegant | Classic | Sophisticated

Some may be a little intimidated and find the atmosphere too formal, especially when comparing others on this list. If you can get over that, however, this is a real gem - they’ve consistently been producing some of the best dishes we’ve seen over the years.
Let us book you into the Cellars Hohenort Hotel – your room is only a hop, skip and a jump away!

Innovative | Theatrical | Stylish

A firm favourite of ours. The amount of thought behind everything you lay your eyes on is beyond admirable. It's a kind of fairyland experience where smoking forests and candy floss trees are on the menu. They have a brilliant winter lunch promotion that we always take advantage of!

Design | Cityscape Views | Indulge

This could almost be an all-day affair. Spa treatments and rooftop refreshments, followed by pre-dinner drinks at The Willaston Bar. The Granary Café is a place of good, honest and approachable food, and the location doesn’t hurt either! Located on the 6th floor of the Silo Hotel, the views over the city and onto the mountain are incredible.

Clever | Inner-city-views | Edgy

This is the most ‘local’ spot for us which we adore and find any excuse to get back to! A great spot for couples wanting to linger a little longer, but they handle larger groups just as well. Sharing is the name of the game here – the more people, the more dishes to taste! You have to try the chick pea fries and fish tacos are not to be missed!

Bistro | Chic | Heritage

We’re members of the private club at The Stack, and often find ourselves there for different reasons. They have yet to disappoint! It’s for very good reason they won Eat Out’s 2017 Best Bistro Eatery in the Cape! Breakfast, lunch or dinner, this is our home away from home.

Cape Malay | Local | Nostalgic

Upper Bloem is a thoroughly modern fine-dining eatery where the menu is inspired by head chef André Hill’s, previously childhood memories. Growing up on Upper Bloem Street in the Bo Kaap, the menu is a journey of flavours, spices, textures, colours, inspiration and nostalgia.
Signage isn’t very good along Main Road in Greenpoint, so check your driver knows where it is!
