Selinda Explorers Camp
Located on an outlying stretch of the Selinda Spillway close to the heart of Botswana’s pristine private 320,000-acre Selinda Reserve, this camp is a camp with a conscience. Given its remote location Selinda Explorer is easily accessed by chartered flights from Maun and Kasane approximating 50 minutes.
Under a canopy of sky-high trees, the four expedition style tents typify the ideology of exploration, connecting guests directly with the pulse of the wild. All of which overlook the water with private verandas and roomy hammocks. Inside the tents Persian rugs, crystal decanters, old travelling trunks and recycled wood furniture create a tranquil and transient atmosphere. The cool and shady communal area provides a place for guests to mingle, and delicious meals are cooked over open fires out in the open.
Hot and cold water set on large copper vanities are provided on demand. The tents all contain separate en-suite flushing toilets and shower areas, although enclosed round the sides for privacy, are open to the stars. For a smidgen of romance, brass hipbaths can be portered to a nearby sandbank on the slip of the Selinda Spillway for bathing under the night sky.
Home to huge herds of buffalo and elephant, the wildlife viewing activities here are principally focused on spectacular guided walks, canoe trips and game drives. Other regular sightings include lion, wild dog, sable and roan antelope - all spotted on a regular basis.
One of the things we love most about this camp is their ethos ‘to touch the earth lightly’ which is exercised and evident in many ways. It’s hand-built, 100% solar powered, their activities are predominantly engine free and their water systems are highly proficient. In fact, all the camps drinking water goes through an Ultra Violet reverse osmosis system, which leaves no impurities.
