Ruckomechi Camp

Ruckomechi Camp is located in a private concession in Zimbabwe’s Mana Pools National Park, set on the banks of the hippo-filled Zambezi River. This camp is the perfect spot for first-time safari trekkers and seasoned travelers who’d like to experience the area’s rich wildlife in a secluded setting and natural splendor.

The camp is nestled in a large grove of broad-canopied trees with a superb view of the mountains of Africa's Great Rift Valley in the distance. The Lower Zambezi Valley is one of the most picturesque areas in southern Africa. Ruckomechi Camp is a complete indulgence of scenic beauty and excellent game-viewing. The area is also home to the valley's highest concentration of predators, offering good opportunities of seeing lion, wild dog, cheetah and leopard. Large concentrations of buffalo and elephant are often seen along the river’s edge and the bird watching, given the eclectic mix of habitats, is sensational.

The main areas include a dining area, library and comfortable sitting area connected to the rest of the camp by low-level walkways. Lazy afternoons spent reading in hammocks and dipping into the infinity plunge pool are a common sight, coupled with evenings spent around the cushion-strewn star gazing deck.

The most silent and intimate way of experiencing the magic of the Zambezi, and exploring the many diverse life-forms that are dependent on it, is a guided canoe. For a different perspective on the animals and the landscape, a guided walk through the African bush is a highlight, tracking big game and taking time to stop and appreciate all the smaller components of this amazing ecosystem.
