Matesti River Lodge
Debatably Zimbabwe’s most luxurious safari stay in the Victoria Falls Region, certainly their newest, the refurbished Matetsi Private Game Reserve re-opened their doors in August 2016! Matetsi is a deluxe property, on the banks of the Zambezi River, in the middle of the bush with the best of both worlds – iconic river frontage and easy access to the ‘smoke that thunders’!

Matesti River Lodge

Matetsi Private Game Reserve overlooking Zimbabwe’s Zambezi River reopened it’s doors less than a month ago after a serious cash injection! The striking and contemporary lodges, positioned on the banks of the iconic river, are a leisurely forty-five minute drive from Victoria Falls.

Matetsi is made up of two properties - The Matetsi River Lodge and The Matetsi River House. Both camps post-revamp are beautifully turned out and are a fine balance between Zimbabwean authenticity of natural materials such as wood and copper as well as vibrant splashes of colour!

Their splendid en-suite bathroom has both indoor and outdoor showers as well as a generously sized circular bath which looks out over the iconic Zambezi River rushing by. For lingering lunches, sundowners, and al fresco dinners, the private veranda has a snug seating area and an inviting plunge pool overlooks the river.

Matetsi River House is a four-bedroomed exclusive-use villa perfect for multigenerational travel. Two rooms have en-suite bathrooms, as well as two inter leading children’s rooms with an en-suite bathroom. The House has its own kitchen, indoor and outdoor dining areas, a veranda overlooking the Zambezi and its own swimming pool. What we love most about The River House is its staff accompaniment, including a dedicated guide, private vehicle, chef and butler, ensuring a luxury safari unlike any other!

The beauty of Matesti is the contrast of river and falls activities. In and around the camp guests can experience twice daily game drives, bush walks, riverboat cruises and canoeing. Specially equipped for families, they offer a children’s programme with interesting activities making including catching fish, making fishing rods and moulds. They are known for their large elephant herds as well as other game such as buffalo, kudu, sable and roan antelope, hippo, lion, leopard, African wild dog, spotted hyena and over three hundred and sixty-six bird species!

For guests who feel like spoiling themselves, there is an extensive safari shop, fitness centre and massage sala; not forgetting their twenty-metre rim flow swimming pool and wine cellar – both with views of the river!

Despite all the luxury, Matetsi has been intrinsically involved in the enhancement of the surrounding concession - from eliminating wildlife hunting to borehole installation, wildlife security, solar power and organic gardens.
