Hoanib Skeleton Coast
Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp is set in the rugged Hoanib River Valley in Northern Damaraland, Namibia, surrounded by the startling contrast of mountains
and large sand dunes. Although it's not technically on the Skeleton Coast, the camp is situated in a private concession that straddles the Skeleton
Coast National Park. There is only one way into this extraordinary camp, by light aircraft! Wilderness Air flies guests in from the Doro Nawas airstrip
in northwest Namibia.
Seven spacious Meru style twin bedded tents overlook the Hoanib River bed in a low impact design. In addition, a family size tent is available. The main area of the camp consists of an open plan lounge, bar and dining area with spectacular views of the desert. The nearby waterhole attracts desert-adapted wildlife including elephant, zebra, giraffe, brown hyena and springbok, creating striking scenery against the stark desert canvas. Weather permitting, evening meals are served in the open air dining room under an old leadwood tree, and menus are made up of a delicious mix of locally sourced and imported ingredients.
A diverse range of activities include game drives, nature walks, skeleton coast excursions, dessert oasis day trips and wildlife research interaction. Guests are also privy to scenic flights over the sand dunes, rocky mountains and the coastline lined with Cape fur seals and shipwreck remains. In the evening, atmospheric presentations are held in the all solar powered camp, where guests can relax after game drives in the bar, lounge, library or outside around the swimming pool area or beside the fire pit.
How any form of life can survive here is baffling, let alone ten ton desert elephants! This is truly a remarkable, once-in-a-lifetime experience!
