The Silo: Cape Town’s take on The Tate Modern/ Eiffel Tower
Liz Biden, South Africa’s ‘Hotel Honey’ is doing it again! She’s busy building the soon-to-be six-storey Silo Hotel on top of the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (MOCAA) in The Mother City!
Overlooking Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront, the site took The Bidens fifteen years to find! The main occupant of the hundred metre high concrete tubes
will be the Zeitz MOCAA Museum. The twenty-eight room city hotel, due to open in March 2017, will have its own restaurant, spa and champagne bar
with three hundred and sixty degree views of our beloved city!
Renowned, urban infrastructural architect, Thomas Heatherwick, was tasked with the tricky transformation of converting the historic elevator house and
storage silos into a five-star masterpiece. The bulging building promises to be a balanced blend of rich heritage dating back to 1921 and cutting edge
geometric design, synonymous with city life.
The Zeitz, a non-profit partnership between the V&A Waterfront and Jochen Zeitz, whose collection will form the Museum’s founding assemblage, will
form the lower level beneath the hotel.
Aesthetically, The Silo is very different compared with the rest of The Royal Portfolio, yet unsurprisingly it upholds the comfort and illustrious look
and feel with which The Biden brand has become synonymous!
Guests staying at The Silo will be privy to luxurious spa treatments, high tea with matchless views of Table Mountain, champagne on the roof, swimming in the glass pool, workouts in the high-tech gym or an exclusive tour of the museum! And it goes without saying that it will house a spectacular sky-scraping penthouse for those wanting the crème de la crème!
I would imagine staying here would be a bit like being thrown into the middle of the James Bond’s Skyfall Premier after party at The Tate Modern!
They’re open for bookings now, so if you fancy a bit of Bond, best you put your Miss Moneypenny on to it!
