The perfect 10

A dazzling blend of dramatic scenery and secret charms, Cape Town is a place where, from the city centre, one can be sipping world-class wine on a tranquil vineyard within thirty minutes, lazing upon a pristine beach in ten or strolling on a mountainside in five.

The cosmopolitan mix of acclaimed restaurants, vibrant festivals, great weather, ecclectic people from all walks of life and the feeling that anything could happen around the next corner all adds up to make Cape Town a special place – a city with a difference.

The ‘list’ is just about endless, but we’ve put together our thoughts on some of the most epic experiences in and around Cape Town for those visiting our shores.

THE FAMOUS CAPE PENINSULA & CHAPMAN’S PEAK DRIVE

Magnificent beaches, breath-taking views, historic and picturesque coastal villages are all experienced along the way to. The Cape Peninsula is one of the world’s most scenic areas and stretches from the City centre to Cape Point, a dramatic meeting of sheer cliffs and crashing waves.

VIEWS FROM THE TOP OF TABLE MOUNTAIN

Head up Table Mountain and soak up the panoramic views over the Mother City and the Atlantic Seaboard, with Robben Island in the distance lying sleepily in Table Bay harbour.

THE SKY’S THE LIMIT

Cape Town is a beautiful place to explore, but to do it from the air can be sensational. The easiest way to do this is to go to the V&A Waterfront where the steel birds take off daily. There is a range of different routes you can choose from, such as the Atlantico, Two Oceans, Robben Island and Full Peninsula.

STRETCH THOSE LEGS
Let’s hit those pavements – privately guided by a knowledgeable expert, this is your opportunity to live, eat, breathe the Cape Town life. Pop into some of the best bakeries in town for the freshest coffee and croissant, pop into art and jewellery studios and meet the artist, take part in a Cape Malay cooking class – the experiences are endless, and are completely tailored and flexible for you.

POWER UP

The culture of Cape Town residents is a fairly active one – almost everyone you meet has some kind of outdoor/fitness hobby, be it simply gym, yoga, trail running, hiking, mountain biking, paddle skiing.

We know some great guides who are just waiting to share the secret of Table Mountain with a half day hike, take you kayaking in the Table Bay or on an epic mountain bike adventure and surfing instructors who are ready to get you into the water.

At the end of the day, a stroll along the promenade may be just what the doctor ordered. This is one of Cape Town’s most lively attractions, bringing together cyclists, dog-walkers, joggers, skaters, amblers, and everyone in between. The Prom, as locals call it, starts at Mouille Point near the Waterfront, and runs along the water’s edge through Sea Point.

SHOP ‘TIL YOU DROP

The shopping scene is a feast - you’ll find a selection of great boutiques, galleries and curio shops showcasing an array of local talent. Once again, Bree Street features strongly here, as well as the suburb of Woodstock

Our favourites:

Missibaba - one-of-a-kind handcrafted bags

Kirsten Goss - unique jewelry

Chandler House - quirky-cool ceramics

Kluk CGDT – high fashion

Love Milo – home living (fabrics, wooden pieces and ceramics)

Mungo - loom-woven linen and towels

Woodstock (just a short cab ride from the city) is where you’ll find the densest concentration of contemporary design and edgy art on the continent.

There are also a number of great markets around town – The Bay Harbour market in Hout Bay, the Oranjezich City Farm Market near to the V&A Waterfront, the Neighbourgood Market in Woodstock to name just a few.

LIVING LIVE WITH LOCALS

Cape Town is a hive of activity throughout the year, with plenty of live events to choose from, ranging from local and international comedians, dramatic and musical theatre performances and international sporting events (mostly cricket and rugby), to name a few.

First Thursdays, as the name suggests, happens on the first Thursday of every month, where art galleries, local shops and markets are all open until much later in the evening, and the streets of inner Cape Town come alive with locals and tourists. Bars and restaurants spill out onto the pavements as old friends meet along the way.

The Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens host the Summer Sunset Concerts series annually, featuring a host of favourite local musicians in a spectacular setting. Picnic blanket, back rest, snacks and drinks can all be arranged for you.

GASTRONOMY

The Mother City's food scene is exploding, with an eclectic mix of restaurants popping up faster than you can say “tuna ceviche”.

Cape Town is consistently ranked within the top 15 of gourmet capitals across the world by the likes of Condé Nast Traveler and such. Over the last few years, the food scene around the city has exploded with an eclectic mix of top class restaurants popping up at an incredible rate. The winelands spread around the Constantia valley and the southern peninsula are steeped in history and compliment the foodie scene perfectly.

We have all the best restaurant recommendations for you. We’re in contact with highly acclaimed chefs who can host private dinners in your villa or at various venues across the city. This is the place to indulge.

SPECTACULAR SUNDOWNERS

Sunsets over the ocean along the Atlantic seaboard are something worth celebrating. Locally referred to as ‘Sundowners’, the day ends finding a great spot, drink of choice in hand and the best of friends to share the experience with.

GIVING BACK

There are plenty of opportunities for you to get involved with communities in and around the Cape Town area. They range from helping in vegetable gardens in Khayelitsha to watching a dance performance in the hub of Hout Bay. Go behind the scenes with the team at Pebbles Project and discover how they empower children and young families around the Cape Winelands through education, nutrition, health and community and protection.

We have long since partnered with Pebble Project, and work closely with James Fernie who founded Uthando South Africa. Uthando is a unique model of travelling philanthropy and responsible tourism with a collection of innovative, inspiring and well managed community development projects.

Together, we’ll find the project that resonates with you and introduce you to the wonderful work being done.
